Ted Maged standing in front of stone that says "Kimberly Maged Perennial Garden"

At MBGNA, we are honored to celebrate the generosity of Theodore Maged. In memory of his late wife, Kimberly, and in recognition of their shared love for nature, two spaces have been named in their honor: the Kimberly Maged Perennial Garden and the Kimberly and Theodore Maged Tropical House.

The family's longstanding bond with the gardens extends far beyond financial contributions. Their support has enhanced the beauty and accessibility of these spaces, creating places of inspiration and enjoyment for all who visit. At the heart of their commitment is a personal connection, especially in memory of Kimberly Maged, whose deep appreciation for the natural world continues to shape these gardens.

Kimberly Ann Maged was a proud University of Michigan graduate who dedicated much of her life to advancing the University through her successful career in fundraising. Kimberly’s work supported many transformational gifts to the University of Michigan, and her legacy is deeply woven into its community. Now, through the establishment of the Kimberly Maged Perennial Garden and the Kimberly and Theodore Maged Tropical House, her lifelong commitment to creating lasting impact continues. These gardens honor her memory and invite future generations to connect with the natural world.

This gift holds special meaning for Theodore Maged, whose words reflect his heartfelt connection: “Matthaei Botanical Gardens has always been a special place for us. It’s where Kimberly and I became husband and wife. Dedicating these gardens and collections in Kimberly's memory is my way of giving back to a place that has given us so much. We hope these spaces inspire future generations to connect with nature in the same meaningful way.”

With the establishment of the Kimberly Maged Perennial Garden and the Kimberly and Theodore Maged Tropical House, these collections will stand as a heartfelt tribute to the Maged family’s love for nature, inviting all who visit to connect with the natural world.

The Director of Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum, Anthony Kolenic, spoke to the impact of this gift: "The Maged family’s generosity is a testament to the power of individual action in creating lasting change. These spaces will serve as cornerstones in our efforts to connect people with nature. We are incredibly grateful for Ted’s trust and support."

We invite you to celebrate this milestone with us, honoring not only the beauty of these spaces but also the love, memory, and generosity that made them possible.
