Exclusive research opportunities

From our founding over a century ago, research has played a key role at Matthaei-Nichols.

Today, ecological themes take center stage in much of the research carried out at the Gardens and Arboretum, but we also support studies into the role of plants and nature in human health and physical well-being, the testing of ideas and devices used to support sustainability, and the role of art and performance in sharing ideas about nature.

Whenever possible we share research conducted on our properties with the general public throughout lectures, presentations, or exhibits. We work with faculty and students from all over campus to bring nature-based performances, readings, structures, or temporary installations to the public.
