Ann Arbor Backyard Beekeepers will host Professor Lars Chittka, author of The Mind of a Bee, for a special presentation to our group on January 14, 2025, at 7 PM at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public. Paid parking is available.
Dr. Chittka will join us live from London via Zoom to share insights into his groundbreaking work on bee intelligence. His talk will explore topics such as bees’ exceptional navigational skills, their ability to recognize flowers and human faces, their demonstration of basic emotions, and their capacity for counting, tool use, problem-solving, and observational learning. Dr. Chittka will also discuss the extraordinary computing power of bees’ tiny brains, the psychological differences among them, and the ethical implications of their potential to think and feel.
Dr Chittka is a Professor in Sensory and Behavioural Ecology at Queen Mary, University of London. The event is free and open to the public.
