Inclusive spaces and services
We aim to make as many of the spaces and places at MBGNA as universally accessible as possible. In addition to all of our public buildings being wheelchair accessible, we have also developed a number of display gardens and trails that incorporate recommended inclines, slopes, and clearance to permit reasonable accessibility.
Accessible parking is available near all Matthaei Botanical Gardens entrances. Both the gardens and the arboretum locations also offer wheelchair-accessible restrooms. For those picnicking, we offer accessible outdoor patios and picnic areas overlooking the peony garden at Nichols Arboretum and the Gateway Garden at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, as well as near the west parking lot of Matthaei.
Wheelchairs can be checked out from the information desk at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. A trailchair is available and can be reserved at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum by visiting in-person or calling ahead. Wheelchairs and trailchairs are limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
