Description

Matthaei Botanical Gardens & Nichols Arboretum is looking for one part-time temporary (10 months) K-12 Education Program Specialist. You will report to the Education Lead and will help develop, produce and teach youth group programs for Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. This position is primarily onsite in Ann Arbor with limited flexibility for remote work, 15 - 20 hours per week, February - November 2025, Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.  For more information and to apply, please click here.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop, produce and teach K-12 environmental education programs at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum 
  • Manage communications and logistics support for the K-12 Education team 
  • Work with interpretation and communication to share K-12 sustainability and place based education to social media 
  • Incorporate active hands-on educational activities indoors and outside in variable weather conditions 
  • Engage with children during environmental education activities
  • Available to work Wednesday evenings between 4:30 - 8pm and occasionally on Saturdays and Sundays

Required Qualifications*

  • College degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • 1+years of experience working with children 
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling meetings, programs or events 
  • Demonstrated web-based research skills 
  • Demonstrated interest in plants, the environment and leading others in environmental education activities 
  • Must be reliable, enthusiastic, and able to manage groups of children

Modes of Work
