A command of balance, counter-balance, and void are demonstrated in this Scots pine. As you ‘spin the tree’ the visual dynamics and how they are structured can be explored. The sweeping rising curvature of the trunk guides your eye as you ascend to and within the canopy. The intentional negative space, or void, between the upper crown and the flaring root system is itself a pleasing shape and volume in context of the entire tree and composition. The structure and mass of the root flare imply both age and enduring stability.

Not only is this tree beautiful now, but it has potential for the generations ahead. This specimen was donated by Jack Wikle in 2012. He started it in 1967.
