This unusual forest composition features a Michigan native tree - tamarack - which is common in swamps of Michigan. Tamaracks are natively found in a range of wet habitats in almost every county of Michigan. They are a deciduous conifer. They have cones like pines and spruces, but their needles are deciduous. As a result, tamaracks have stunning fall color displays - primarily clear yellows.

This example was begun in 2004 by Jack Wikle, and donated by him in 2014.
