Eco-Workdays

Eco-workdays are fantastic for volunteer groups, but we also encourage and welcome individuals or pairs to sign-up and join us for an eco-workday!

We now require all individuals (or a group leader and input number of spots) to sign-up for the eco-workday rather than just show up.
This assists us with staff, tools, resources, and safety throughout the ongoing covid transitions.

Sign up for an Eco Workday!

Our calendar of upcoming weekend volunteer eco-workdays, including the ability to sign-up, can be found by clicking the button below.

AT NICHOLS ARBORETUM

Arb Workdays

The Main Valley in Nichols Arboretum has rightfully been called the “Heart of the Arb.” The Arb’s landscape was planned in 1906 and developed this majestic verdant space offering iconic views.

AT MATTHAEI BOTANICAL GARDENS

Matthaei Botanical Garden Workdays

Matthaei Botanical Garden Workdays meet at the parking lot/west lobby door entrance located by Willow Pond at 1800 N. Dixboro Rd. in Ann Arbor.

There is easy road access off Dixboro Road. See this map with red arrow. Once you park, follow the “mosaic tiles” on the outdoor hallway wall to the lobby door to meet us outside – look for our welcoming staff leads too.

What to Wear and Bring

Dress for comfort, safety, and the weather presented to you that day. You will be outside in the elements for the duration of your workday (3 hours). Wear layers and use sun protection, hats, winter gloves, etc. We will be supplying gloves and any tools that may be necessary.

Sturdy close-toed shoes are required in all settings. Boots are best in winter and muddy weather. Long pants (not leggings or other light material) are required when working in natural areas to protect yourself against the elements, work tools, and plant material.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottle. If a volunteer is not dressed properly and we believe it is a safety concern (cold and snowy winter weather for instance and a volunteer is dressed in sneakers and light leggings), we may dismiss the volunteer(s) for their own safety.
