Featured Performance: Ultimate Ovation
On Thursday, July 11, we are excited to present Ultimate Ovation, a 60's soul group featuring original members. Detroit’s rich history of soul music is well represented by legends such as Motown and the more indie sounds of Ultimate Ovation. Formed in 1967 by Damon Gardner, Marvin Gardner, and Keith Collins, the group gained recognition with their 1975 single “Hello Baby” backed with “Chameleon Man” on the Aquarius label. Throughout the late 70s and 80s, they released several 45s on their own label, Ultimate 1999.
After a hiatus in the 90s, Ultimate Ovation returned to the music scene in the 2000s, performing with notable acts like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Melvin Davis. Backed by the Force of Power Band, they have released music on their own Eleganza label and Funk Night Records. Known for their timeless sound, Ultimate Ovation continues to captivate audiences with their soulful performances.
