Farm Stand
A student-powered market offering fresh, locally grown produce and hands-on learning in sustainable food systems.
The Farm Stand at the University of Michigan
The Farm Stand is a student-led, pop-up market that brings locally grown, sustainable produce directly to campus. Powered by the U-M Sustainable Food Program (UMSFP) and the Campus Farm at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, the Farm Stand is more than just a place to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, it's a space for students to engage with sustainable food systems and leadership opportunities, all while providing affordable, healthy food.

A Growing Legacy of Student Leadership
The Farm Stand builds on a strong foundation of student leadership and collaboration. In 2017, the Campus Farm partnered with MDining to bring fresh, locally grown produce to dining halls across campus. By 2019, students pushed to extend this access to everyone at U-M, leading to the creation of the Farm Stand. Today, it continues to thrive as a vibrant platform for food systems education and engagement, providing produce at wholesale prices and supporting student-led sustainable food projects through mini-grants for food justice.
A Vision for Sustainable Food Access
The Farm Stand envisions a University of Michigan where every student has access to healthy, local, and affordable food. Through high-impact experiential learning, students who grow and sell produce at the Farm Stand gain invaluable skills in leadership. This initiative also serves as a model for other universities, showing how students can engage with the food system from field to fork while making real contributions to campus sustainability.
