In August 2026, new interpretive signs were installed around Willow Pond at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, sharing the story of Miinomin (Wild Rice), its relationship to this place, and Anishnaabek connections to the lands and waters of Michigan.
Join Eric Hemenway, Humanities Manager at U-M’s School for Environment and Sustainability, and Katie Seguin, MBGNA Interpretation Specialist, for a walk around Willow Pond to explore the signs and the stories behind them. Along the way, they’ll share how the project took shape through collaboration across disciplines and communities, and how the signs bring together history, culture, ecology, and place.
The program begins at 5:00 PM.
