Stevia is used to add sweetness to the diet without raising blood sugar. The stevia constituent, stevioside or rebaudioside A is used as a sweetner in foods. Rebaudioside A is the most abundant steviol glycoside constituent found in stevia.
Extracts of leaves from Stevia have been used for many years in traditional treatment of diabetes in South America.Clinical research suggests that stevioside, a constituent of stevia, might reduce postprandial glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes
