Research suggests taking butterbur orally may prevent migraine headaches; Petasin and isopetasin, two main constituents of butterbur, decrease blood concentrations of histamine and leukotrienes contributing to its analgesic effect.
May be an effective treatment for seasonal allergies.
Butterbur may be used as treatment for seasonal allergies; In allergic rhinitis (hayfever), butterbur and purified petasin decrease blood concentrations of histamine and leukotrienes.
