Norman Memorial Grove

    at Matthaei Botanical Gardens

The Norman Memorial Grove is a popular gathering place near the west entrance to the Sue Reichert Discovery Trail. The views across the pond and wetland change dramatically through the seasons, while the picnic tables invite visitors to gather and linger. This is the perfect place to begin or end your visit to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens.

The Norman Memorial Grove has been expanded with new plantings of native oak, maple, hickory, and sassafras. Together with the existing maples, these trees will provide welcome shade in the summer months and dramatic fall color.

The Normal Memorial Grove site is at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens site. The Normal Memorial Grove honors Dr. A. Geoffery Norman, the first director of Matthaei Botanical Gardens.
