HarvestFest at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum was a resounding success! On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Campus Farm came alive with the vibrant spirit of sustainability, social justice, and creativity.
The event, hosted by the UM Sustainable Food Program and the Campus Farm, showcased the incredible work of U-M students in driving sustainable food initiatives. With over 1,400 people in attendance, it was a true testament to the community’s dedication to these important causes.
Attendees were treated to a diverse range of activities, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. From lawn games that brought people together, arts and crafts that sparked creativity, to live music performances that set the perfect atmosphere – HarvestFest truly celebrated community and connection.
One of the highlights was the Campus Farm tour, where visitors had the chance to see firsthand how our students cultivate locally grown produce. This hands-on experience allowed everyone to appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into sustainable farming practices.
Food enthusiasts were in for a treat with mouthwatering food demonstrations that showcased the importance of sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. Attendees got to savor delicious, freshly prepared dishes that emphasized the connection between healthy eating and ecological responsibility.
Throughout the event, informative displays from both student and community organizations educated attendees on the significance of sustainability, social justice, and food sovereignty. It was inspiring to see so many passionate individuals and groups working towards a better, more equitable world.
The Farm Stand was a hit, offering attendees the opportunity to purchase locally-grown produce and support the efforts of our students. It’s wonderful to know that these initiatives contribute to healthier communities, cultures, and ecosystems.
