Cancer, also known as malignant tumor, is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. A complex group of diseases, cancer has many possible causes. Known causes of cancer include genetic factors; lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, sun exposure, diet, and physical activity; certain types of infections; and environmental exposures to different types of chemicals and radiation.
