Long-time Ann Arbor Bonsai Society member Jerry Meislik conducts a workshop using Ficus burtt-davyi, an excellent bonsai material that is not commonly available. The cost is $80 and includes the tree, soil, wire, and a plastic training pot. Workshop is limited to 7 participants. Registration required. The workshop will be held in the Head House at Matthaei Botanical Gardens (workroom near the loading area/garage door) from 5:30 – 9:00. Conservation Stewards are volunteers who help protect and restore our state’s natural areas and ecosystems. They help remove invasive species, build trails, collect data, and work with naturalists, biologists, and land managers to preserve public land. The Conservation Stewards Program will help you gain the skills to lead or contribute to land stewardship efforts in your area. John Migas, a western Michigan nursery owner, gives a presentation on growing and caring for rhododendrons and azaleas. John has years of experience cultivating rhododendrons. He will discuss planting, soils, site conditions, pruning, fertilizing, and propagation of these beautiful flowering shrubs. A brief business meeting precedes the presentation.
