Matthaei Botanical Gardens presents "The Mind Bloom," an art exhibit of nature-inspired paintings by Jennifer Farina. Jennifer's painting and writing start with her experience of the natural world and then, she writes, "lead inward and outward at the same time.” Her work begins with treks through gardens and woodland. These experiences inspire her to write poetry, which then conjures images within her brain instead of in view of her eyes.  Each artwork is non-representational, so viewers will all have an individual take…

Dennis Albert, Ph.D. discusses the endemic flora of the Playa Lakes of the Hart Mountain (Oregon) and Sheldon Wildlife (Nevada) refuges, with a focus on the smaller playas on the tops of the basalt rim rock. Join Allen Chartier for a program on his study of hummingbirds in Michigan and the Great Lakes area. Allen founded the Great Lakes HummerNet in 2001. Sightings of these birds are reported to Allen by volunteers, and Allen also catches and bands birds. Besides ruby-throated hummingbirds, the 15 vagrant hummingbird species are also studied.
