Event Navigation
Wrap up the 2018 Professional Stewards Hike season by practicing your woody-plant keying skills indoors. Facilitator Gary Hannan will outline basic twig characters and provide guidance as you practice on twigs that are provided. Feel free to bring along any twigs you’d like to figure out, as well as cookies to share (we’ll supply cider and cocoa). Also helpful: a 10X loupe or hand lens, and a copy of Core and Ammons Woody Plants in Winter, or the 2004 edition of Barnes and Wagner, Michigan Trees. All are welcome, but the presentation will be geared at a level for those already working in conservation. Dr. Gary Hannan is a professor of biology at EMU who researches reproductive biology of plants. His teaching includes Trees and Shrubs, Plant Anatomy, and Biogeography. Free.
