May 6 - June 25

Saturday, May 6 – Sunday, June 25 at Matthaei Botanical Gardens.

Opening reception May 6th, 2pm-4pm.

Chris Huang’s art features vivid illustrations on timber slices of plants and animals, often birds and deer with bold outlines and a somewhat stained glass appearance.

This collection of work captures nearly 10 years of art created by Chris Huang while living in Boulder, CO and the last two years in Ann Arbor, MI.  The common thread that binds all the work together regardless of geography is that in each piece there exists a message of connection to nature, to one another, to the cosmos.  The subject matters change based on the regional animals or plant life of the area, perhaps the drawing style shifts a little based on the environment too, but the underlying message of connection to place has remained the inspiration for many if not all the pieces.  In this work there is imagery of animals, people, mandalas, plants, all sharing an experience of this connection.

Artist’s Bio: Chris Huang creates much of his artwork with colored pencil and ink on wood. The work reflects our connection with the natural world and is often represented through mandala, plant, animal, and human imagery. Though the art is meticulously hand-crafted, it is truly a labor of love and an opportunity for the artist to express and connect with higher, cosmic ideals and concepts. He has shown in galleries throughout Colorado, the southwest states as well as in California. He currently resides in Ann Arbor with his wife and children.
