Delve into the fine points of Satsuki azaleas in this weekend devoted to the centuries-old art of Satsuki bonsai. June 3-5, 2022 the Bonsai Garden at Matthaei Botanical Gardens will feature an exhibition of blooming Satsuki azalea from bonsai expert and collector Dr. Melvyn Goldstein. And renowned bonsai artist David Kreutz will lead two Sun., June 5 workshops for beginner-expert level participants.

Satsuki Azalea Workshops

8 am-noon & 1 – 5pm
Two workshops on Satsuki Azalea will feature a multiple varieties including ‘Zuiun’, ‘Nagisa-no-Kaori’, ‘Nao’, and ‘Azumakagami’, as well as a variety of smaller exposed root azaleas. $110-$275 per workshop, depending on style and size of tree selected. 100 Years in Bloom Celebration
In addition to the Bonsai in Bloom events, the weekend of June 3-5 will celebrate the centennial of the Peony Garden at Nichols Arboretum. Planned activities include a cut-flower show at Matthaei, the Peony Bloom at Nichols Arboretum, and a special 100 Years in Bloom Garden Walk co-hosted by Ann Arbor Farm & Garden.
