Plant Parts & Functions
Before your Visit
Use this activity to teach or review the basic plant parts before visiting the gardens. After completing this activity, students will be able to name and describe the key parts of a plant and each part’s functions or jobs. Students will understand that each part helps the plant survive, grow, and reproduce.
At the Gardens
Students can use this worksheet to record their observations about different plant parts while exploring the gardens. This activity can be completed in the conservatory or on the trails.
In the Classroom
After the trip, use this activity to reinforce what students learned during their experience at the gardens. This assignment asks students to use creativity in coming up with their own new plant and describe the function of each part of their plant. They can draw inspiration from the plants they observed at the gardens or elsewhere.
