Display Elevates Meaning

A bonsai on display is at a peak condition. Arriving at this condition requires training the plant and staging it as part of a compelling visual presentation. Any single bonsai may be at the top display level for only a few days a year.

The Pieces

All bonsai rely on the same few parts. The tree and the pot are essential. Optional elements include rocks, figurines, and stands that position the bonsai for display. Water is rarely present but can be implied or imagined.

Putting the Pieces Together

Positioning the tree in the pot is fundamental to the art and meaning. Every additional piece is used for a reason – no element is just for decoration. In composing bonsai, “less is more” comes to life.
