Ivana joins the Matthaei Botanical Gardens & Nichols Arboretum as the DEI Manager. She formerly worked as the Equity Audit Co-Lead for the Edward Ginsberg Center at the University of Michigan. As the Equity Audit Co-Lead, she developed a justice-centered evaluation framework interrogating how the Ginsberg Center utilizes the organization to advance, cultivate, and steward equitable partnerships between communities and the University of Michigan. Additionally, she previously served as a consultant for the Presidents’ Alliance for Higher Education and Immigration. Throughout her time, she conducted research and advocated for state and national legislation to increase access to higher education for undocumented, DACA, refugee, and TPS students. Her contributions include expanding state classifications and updating state policies for the Higher Ed Immigration Portal. She is a member of the Presidents’ Alliance Student Advisory Table.
She holds an M.A. in Higher Education with a concentration on diversity and social justice from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. in Sociology from Gettysburg College. Her passion for community engagement began at the Painted Turtle Farm in her hometown of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She continues to support community leaders and remains active by supporting undocumented and mixed-status families navigate higher education. Outside of her work, you can find Ivana playing her violin, tending plants, and enjoying the sun. Her favorite plant is cola del burro (Sedum morganianum).
